How to apply decorative plaster ATACAMA

1. Application of primer

Prior to plastering surface has to be coated by KVARC primer.

2. Application of plaster ATACAMA.

ATAСAMA has to be applied by rectangular or trapezoidal trowel with rounded edges and corners. While ATAСAMA is still wet – work the surface in order to create desired patterned structure (see options (a, b, c, d) below).

3. Recreation of relief. Possible options.

a) Weathered sandstone surface

Work the surface by rectangular or trapezoidal trowel in „criss-cross” or wavy mode.

b) Travertine relief

Work the surface by foamed roller and then smooth obtained grainy pattern by metal or plastic spatula in one or different directions depending on desired structure.

c) Timber relief

Work the surface by parallel passages of specially engraved “wood graining” rubber applicator . Most realistic wood structure is replicating while rocking the applicator from one edge to another during continuous (non-stopping) parallel passages.

d) Wood bark structure

Work the surface with parallel movements of special trowel with plastic bristles leaving striped  tracks. Created pattern  has to be smoothened using the spatula by movements directed along the relief structure.

Pattern developing*

*Weathered sandstone surface structure developing has been used below just as an example. All the other reliefs can be treated using the same technique.

4. Application of tinted CERA wax.

Apply tinted CERA wax evenly on to 1÷2 m² surface area unit by circular movements of woolen glove (fig. 1). While CERA is still wet work the surface by woolen glove again in order to ensure uniform wax spreading all over the surface. (Structures oriented in one direction like "timber" or "wood bark") ave to be stained by CERA wax using the brush (fig. 2). Wax excess has to be removed from upper parts of pattern by spatula moving it along the relief and holding its blade at acute angle (fig. 3).

5. Sanding (optional).

If deeper contract accentuating is desired it is advisable to sand the upper parts of pattern using sand paper (grain size index of about 180 is recommended).

6. Burnishing (polishing).

In case glossy aspect and deeper color contrast of patterned relief is required it is advisable to burnish completely dried surface by inox trowel holding it at acute angle (as parallel as possible) to the surface. Burnishing is mandatory only in case of ATACAMA application without subsequent staining by tinted CERA wax!

7. Application and polishing of protective  wax VENETO CERA.

It is recommended to apply wax VENETO CERA in order to accentuate contrast of the surface, increase the gloss and to make the surface water repellent. Wax has to be applied by thin layer using woollen glove. After wax is dried surface has to be polished by soft cloth or woollen glove by circular movements. In case high level of washability is required it is possible to protect the surface by varnish instead of VENETO CERA (Ekoakva, Luoten or Paneļu laka of required gloss degree) are recommended. In case pearlescent sparkling effect is desired it is also possible (optional) to admix pearlescent powder PERLIUM of required colour directly to the varnish prior to it’s application.

8. The surface is done.

a) Weathered sandstone surface. ATACAMA and CERA wax of different colours have been used.

How to apply lacquer KRAKELUR

1. Application of Base coat.

Surface has to be painted by paint MOVILAT 7  or MOVILAT 12 using the  roller. This base coat will define the color of cracks.

2. Application of KRAKELUR lacquer.

After base coat is completely dried apply 1 coat of lacquer KRAKELUR by roller or brush. Intercoat interval between applications of KRAKELUR and top coat is 6 hours minimum.

3. Application of top coat.

Apply top coat of paint MOVILAT 7, MOVILAT 12 or MOVILAT 25 tinted in to shade contrasting with color of base coat using roller or brush loaded with volume big enough to hide in 1-coat. Aplication by brush (fig. 1). Strokes directed along the track of roller used for KRAKELUR application will cause recreation  of more elongated pattern of cracks, while perpendicular strokes will cause recreation of more uniform pattern. In general as a result of any mode of brush application pattern will contain elongated cracks directed along the brush strokes. In case of application by roller (fig. 2) more diversed and irregular crack pattern will be developed.

4. The surface is done.

In case “masking tape” been used as a borderline of decorated surface, then it recommended to cut decorative coating by knife along the tape in order to prevent damage of surface edge while pilling off the tape. To improve water resistance of decorated surface apply 1 or 2 thin coats of lacquer (EKOAKVA, LUOTEN or PANEĻU LAKA can be used). In case pearlescent sparkling effect is desired it is also possible (optional) to admix pearlescent powder PERLIUM of required colour directly to the lacquer prior to its application.

How to apply decoratice paint SCINTILLO

1. Application of primer.

Prior to SCINTILLO application surface has to be coated by KVARC primer. SCINTILLO forms semitransparent coat, therefore in case of color contrast between base coat (KVARC) and top coat (SCINTILLO) is required it is recommended to tint KVARC in to shade contrasting with the color of SCINTILLO.

2. Application of SCINTILLO.

Apply SCINTILLO by wide brush with soft bristles using “criss-cross” or “parallel” movements on to 2÷3 m² surface unit.

3. Smoothering of „white particles”.

After 5-15 minutes (when clear base of paint is already set, but while polymeric flecks are still wet) surface has to be smoothened by criss-crossed or parallel movements of metal or plastic spatula. Very gentle pressing has to be applied on to the tool while moving spatula over the surface and squeezing white polymeric flecks. Blade of spatula has to be kept at acute angle (as parallel as possible) to surface.

4. The surface is done.

To provide high degree of washability it is recommended to seal the surface by transparent varnish of required degree of gloss (EKOAKVA, LUOTEN or PANEĻU LAKA can be used). Varnishing of surface also helps to reveal contrast of the structure. In case pearlescent sparkling effect is desired it is also possible (optional) to admix pearlescent powder PERLIUM of required colour directly to the lacquer prior to its application.

How to apply decorative paint SETUAL

1. Application of Base coat.

Surface has to be painted by Мovilat Base, Мovilat 4 or Мovilat 7  paints tinted in to shade closely matching  color chosen for SETUAL.

2. Application of 1st coat.

First coat of SETUAL has to be applied by multidirectional movements of wide brush with soft bristles or by INOX rectangular or trapezoidal trowel with rounded edges and corners. Avoid rough surface formulation while applying SETUAL.

3. Application of 2nd coat.

After 1st coat is completely dry, apply 2nd coat on to surface  unit with area 2÷3 m². After 2nd coat began to set but while  is still a bit wet work the surface with creative movements of INOX trowel.

4. The surface is done.

How to apply decorative paint BOREALIS

1. Painting of surface.

BOREАLIS has to be applied on to the surface coated by one of the following paints: MOVILAT 7, MOVILAT 12, MOVILAT 25. If color contrast of base and top coats is desired then surface has to be painted by paint tinted in to shade contrasting with the color of top coat (BOREАLIS).  If color contrast isn’t desired then paint closely matching the shade of BOREALIS has to be used.

2. Application of BOREАLIS.

Small area (2÷3 m²) has to be coated by uneven layer of BOREАLIS using wide bristle brush.

3. Creation of patterned structure.

While BOREАLIS is still wet surface has to be smoothened by creative movements of Inox trowel with rounded edges and corners. Parallel movements will facilitate creation of structure oriented in one direction while multidirectional movements will result in creation of “wave like” structure. In order to enrich relief structure it is possible to apply small additional quantities of product by loading small volumes of BOREАLIS directly on to working surface of spatula with subsequent spreading of the product over the surface keeping same application technique.

How to apply Venetian stucco VENETTO CLASSICO

1. Application of primer.

VENETO CLASSICO can be applied on to smooth solid and clean mineral surfaces (mortars, renders, concrete, gypsum boards etc.). Prior to application of VENETO CLASSICO surface has to be coated by KVARC primer.

2. Application of 1st and 2nd coats.

First (1 or 2) coats have to be applied by INOX trowel. Avoid formation of excessively rough patterns. Drying time of each coat – 3 hours. Intercoat interval is 6 hours - minimum (at 20ºC).

3. Application of final coat.

Final coat has to be applied on to small area (0,5-1,0 m²) by short multidirectional creative pressing movements holding trowel at acute angle to surface. To obtain more variegated pattern it is also possible to use special polishing triangle spatula with rounded corners in criss-cross manner. It is advisable to provide complete coverage of surface by very thin layer of stucco. Right away while material is still wet polishing procedure has to be commenced.

4. Polishing.

Polishing procedure has to be accomplished while final coat is still wet. Trowel has to be kept at acute angle to the surface. Pressing force should increase after each stroke. As a result of repeating multidirectional “pressing movements” gloss level is gradually increasing after each stroke.

5. Application and polishing of VENETO CERA wax.

Finishing wax VENETO CERA has to be evenly distributed all over the surface by multidirectional movements of INOX trowel. Trowel has to be kept at acute angle to surface. After wax is dried surface has to be polished by soft cloth or woollen glove by circular movements.

6. The surface is done.

Please bear in mind that primary role of stucco (even despite it protected by wax) is not protective but only decorative. Therefore high mechanical or washing  loads on to decorated surface are to be avoided. Cleaning and dedusting of the surface has to be done using dry or just lightly moisturised soft cleaning cloth.
